Morphological variations in rat mammary glands according to age and environmental factors

, : Morphological variations in rat mammary glands according to age and environmental factors. Annales d' Endocrinologie 39(6): 411-416

Mammary glands were studies in rats kept in a normal photoperiod of 10 h/day. Young females aged 3.5 months and which had never lactated had poorly developed glands with few acini. Young females aged 5.5 months and which had lactated had well developed glands. However, in these adults the acini were inactive during periods of non-lactation, whereas in older females aged 20 months, many of the acini continued to produce a slight secretion.
