Natural epizooties caused by bacilli of the species Bacillus thuringiensis and Bacillus cereus

, : Natural epizooties caused by bacilli of the species Bacillus thuringiensis and Bacillus cereus. Zeitschrift Fuer Angewandte Entomologie: 882: 216-221

Bacilli strains isolated from natural epizooties in old Yugoslavian mills were identified as B. thuringiensis var. thuringiensis (3 strains), B. thuringiensis var. morrisoni (2 strains), B. thuringiensis var. kurstaki (11 strains) and B. cereus (4 strains) [The entomocidal effect of individual strains was tested on 8 pests: larvae of Pieris brassicae, Aporia crataegi, Yponomeuta malinellus, Euproctis chrysorrhoea, Mamestra brassicae, Lymantria dispar, Galleria mellonella and larvae of Musca domestica.] Two strains isolated in Cuba were classified as B. cereus and the intermediate type B. cereus-B. thuringiensis. A certain locality can be colonized by more varieties of B. thuringiensis. Differences in effectivity on the 8 pests and in exotoxin production were found in the collection of strains belonging to the identical serotype.
