Neuroendrocrine regulation of oocyte maturation in the imported fire ant Solenopsis invicta

, : Neuroendrocrine regulation of oocyte maturation in the imported fire ant Solenopsis invicta. General and Comparative Endocrinology 35(3): 234-237

Extirpation of the corpus allatum and brain neurosecretory cells and the application of juvenile hormone showed that the neuroendocrine regulation of oocyte maturation in Solenopsis invicta Buren closely resembles the general insect pattern of neuroendocrine regulation where both the brain and the corpora allata are required. Evidence is presented that the brain has a role in oocyte maturation in addition to the generally accepted role in regulating the secretion of juvenile hormone by the corpora allata.
