Occurrence of an undescribed coccidian in man in Papua New Guinea

, : Occurrence of an undescribed coccidian in man in Papua New Guinea. Annals of Tropical Medicine and Parasitology 73(5): 497-500

A distinct coccidian was discovered by chance in the faeces of a 14-month-old boy, a 30-year-old woman and a 2-year-old girl, the first 2 from Port Moresby and the girl from the western Province, Papua New Guinea. The oocysts were unsporulated and never numerous. They were spherical and uniform in size (mean diameter of 20 oocysts 8.5 mu m). The wall was smooth and refractile, apparently 3-layered and 0.5 mu m thick.
