Persistent lymphocytosis: aetiology and its relationship to bovine lymphosarcoma

, : Persistent lymphocytosis: aetiology and its relationship to bovine lymphosarcoma. Praktische Tierarzt 59(8): 589-593

Studies in defined cattle populations show that bovine leukosis virus (BLV) is the agent of both the adult form (enzootic form) of bovine lymphosarcoma and of persistent lymphocytosis (PL). Clinical expression is dependent on genetic factors, but no connexion is at present known between the genes responsible for the development of PL and those which favour lymphosarcoma. No proof could be found that symptomless animals with PL had tumourous or degenerate cells.
