Potatoes in the mid-1980's

, : Potatoes in the mid-1980's. Farm Business Outlook (7): 1-10

Potato growers currently face uncertainties arising from both full accession to the EEC and the degree to which consumption per head will recover from the depressed levels of uptake during the drought years. This short article examines these two uncertainties and relates them to the possible outcome by the mid 1980s, taking the early 1970s as a base point. In the absence of full UK market controls, the UK will continue to have the protection of sea freight charges on imports.
