Problems in determining the percentage of annual and perennial ryegrass in mixtures

, : Problems in determining the percentage of annual and perennial ryegrass in mixtures. Newsletter of the Association of Official Seed Analysts 53(1): 20-23

Perennial and ryegrass Pennfine and Manhattan had an av. of 551 seeds/g and annual ryegrass 376 seeds/g. The difference in the number of seeds/g between the 2 spp. was higher than the 110 seeds/g as published in the AOSA Rules for testing seeds. When mixtures of known wt. of perennial and annual ryegrass seeds were analyzed the proportion of perennial ryegrass seeds was always higher using the fluorescence method than counting the number of seeds.
