In field trials in 1977 near Villagio, Italy between 15 March and 13 Aug., monogerm sugar beet seed was sown and given pre- or post-em. herbicide treatments. With the pre-em. treatments (a) metamitron, (a) + TCA, (a) + cycloate, (b) pirazone (b) + TCA, (b) + cycloate and hand weeded and untreated controls there were trimmed root yields of 70.18, 67.64, 62.63, 57.82, 62.98, 64.50, 67.26 and 38.78 t/ha, resp.
