Some further considerations regarding the biological and taxonomic status of the Mexican duck

, : Some further considerations regarding the biological and taxonomic status of the Mexican duck. Arizona Nevada Academy of Science, Journal 15(Proceedings Supplement): 28

The Mexican duck (Anas diazi) has continued to expand its range and distribution in the southwest U.S. One result has been an increase in incidences of hybridization with mallards (Anas platyrhynchos). Recent findings have shown major differences in pairing behavior between these two forms. Recent proposals for subspecific status to A. p. diazi may be premature, or at least inconsistent with the taxonomy of other less dimorphic mallard-like forms.
