Some microbiological studies in salt-affected soils. 3. The effect of some inorganic ameliorants on nitrogen mineralization

, : Some microbiological studies in salt-affected soils. 3. The effect of some inorganic ameliorants on nitrogen mineralization. Journal of the Indian Society of Soil Science 26(2): 173-178

In a laboratory experiment with salt-affected soils the application of gypsum, sulphuric acid or calcium chloride increased the amount of mineralized nitrogen in the soil. In unreclaimed and partially reclaimed soils, nitrite-N accumulated; the ammonification rate exceeded the nitrification rate. Initially, the differences in contents of available nitrogen between the control and amended soils were low, but they increased with increasing time of incubation.
