Studies on the ideal plant type and its relationship with grain yield in sorghum (Sorghum vulgare Pers.) hybrids and selections of diverse genetic backgrounds

, : Studies on the ideal plant type and its relationship with grain yield in sorghum (Sorghum vulgare Pers.) hybrids and selections of diverse genetic backgrounds. Thesis Abstracts 3(4): 223-224

Investigation of the effects of defoliation (removing different numbers of leaves) on plant ht., days to maturity, peduncle length, ear size and wt., number and wt. of grains/ear and 1000-grain wt. and vol. of 2 sorghum hybrids and 4 showed that an ideal plant type should be of medium ht. possessing 8 erect and thick leaves and broad and long ears with a large number of whorls and grains for obtaining high grain yields.
