, : Studies on the origin of the main characters of Koshihikari and its sister varieties. II. Varietal differences between the sister varieties for various characters, in particular, quality and taste. Japanese Journal of Breeding Ikushugaku Zasshi 28(3): 263-268

Plants of the rices Norin 1 (Agriculture and Forestry 1), Honenwase, Koshihikari, Koshijiwase Hatsunishiki and Yamasenishiki received a standard nitrogen treatment or a heavy nitrogen treatment. Heavy nitrogen treatment greatly increased dry matter weight in all varieties except Norin 1. This difference may also be due to Norin 1 being more susceptible to Pyricularia oryzae and more liable to lodge than are the other varieties.
