The histology of parasitism of Ustilago nigra Tapke, the pathogen of barley nigra loose smut

, : The histology of parasitism of Ustilago nigra Tapke, the pathogen of barley nigra loose smut. Mikologiya i Fitopatologiya 12(4): 324-328

Mass chlamydospore germination of U. nigra was observed 3 days after sowing. On the coleoptile of 3-day-old barley shoots only superficial mycelium was seen. At the seedling stage mycelium was developing vertically inside the first true leaf and small amounts were found in the tillering node and in primary and secondary rootlets. Mycelium was detected infrequently in the leaves and leaf sheaths.
