The influence of feeding hay from area with heavy pollution of atmosphere with nitrogen compounds on some biochemical parameters of blood and rumen content in sheep

, : The influence of feeding hay from area with heavy pollution of atmosphere with nitrogen compounds on some biochemical parameters of blood and rumen content in sheep. Bulletin of the Veterinary Institute in Pulawy 22(3/4): 73-77

Two adult sheep with indwelling rumen cannulae were used to compare the effects of hay from an uncontaminated pasture with that of hay from grassland affected by heavy atmospheric pollution with nitrogen compounds. Levels of urea in blood and ammonia in rumen contents were monitored for 46 days. Both compounds were consistently more in the sheep on contaminated hay than in the others.
