The influence of the rumen on the absorption of drugs: studies using meclofenamic acid administered by various routes to sheep and cattle

, : The influence of the rumen on the absorption of drugs: studies using meclofenamic acid administered by various routes to sheep and cattle. Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics 2(2): 109-115

Meclofenamic acid (20 mg/kg) was given by mouth and by ruminal cannula to three sheep. The concentrations of meclofenamate in rumen fluid, abomasal fluid, duodenal fluid and plasma at various intervals after dosing showed that a proportion of the drug given by mouth probably had been directed to the omasum/abomasum through the reticular groove after reflex closure.
