In 1978-79, in Sweden, the performance of 36 191 sows was recorded v 42 058 in the previous year. Of the recorded sows, 19 383 were Landraces, 3018 Large Whites, 296 Hampshires, 35 Durocs and 13 459 crossbreds. For 13 680 gilt and 45 955 sow litters, litter size at birth averaged 10.0 and 11.9 resp., litter size at weaning 8.2 and 9.3, and the percentage of litters with abnormal piglets 10 and 9; the number of piglets produced per sow per year averaged 17.5.
