The occurrence of Actinomycetes in a cerrado soil in Brazil

, : The occurrence of Actinomycetes in a cerrado soil in Brazil. Revue d' Ecologie et de Biologie du Sol 15(4): 459-473

Actinomycetes inhabiting acidic (pH 4.9) cerrado soil were investigated. Counts were made using seven culture media with and without antifungal antibiotic. The effects on counts of pH, humidity, sample storage time and preincubation of soil with vanillin were studied. Numbers varied between 19.6 and 67.2 X 105/g dry soil. The actinomycete/bacteria ratio varied from 2 to 66. All strains examined belonged to the genus Streptomyces.
