The stylet sheath as an indicator of feeding activity of the rice stink bug

, : The stylet sheath as an indicator of feeding activity of the rice stink bug. Journal of Economic Entomology 72(2): 259-260

Tan, volcano-shaped, stylet sheaths of Oebalus pugnax (F.) were found on developing grains and branches of the rice panicle. The sheaths were weakly attached to the surface of the plant tissues. Stylet sheaths were used to study the feeding activities of the rice stink bug. All immature stages, except Stage 1, fed on the damaged grains similar to adults. Adult rice stink bugs produced more stylet sheaths at than at and C. Male rice stink bugs produced approximately as many stylet sheaths as females.
