The supply behaviour of Bavarian slaughter pig producers - a contribution to the positive analysis of supply

, : The supply behaviour of Bavarian slaughter pig producers - a contribution to the positive analysis of supply. Bayerisches Landwirtschaftliches Jahrbuch 55(1, Sonderheft): 90-127

The main emphasis is on which factors determine the supply of pigs and what is their functional form and the time lag in their effect. Factors considered include prices of fat pigs, beef cattle, costs of self-produced feed mix and of farm buildings and the size of the potato harvest. An expected 1% increase in the long-term price of pigs is estimated to lead to a 2.48% increase in supply. The estimated elasticity of home slaughter relative to pig prices is - 0.58.
