The uptake in vitro by larval and adult Brugia pahangi was studied using Trypan blue, ferritin, fluorescein isothiocyanate-conjugated calf serum proteins and radioactively labelled glucose, sucrose and leucine. The experiments demonstrated that the 3rd-stage larva utilizes exogenous monosaccharide and amino acid, but that nutrient uptake does not appear to involve the gut.
