The vacuum counter as a sampling instrument

, : The vacuum counter as a sampling instrument. Seed Science and Technology 6(2): 495-504

The efficiency of the vacuum counter as a sampling instrument was examined by removing successive 100-seed samples from half-working samples of pure seed of meadow fescue, cocksfoot and Brassica spp. until the pure seed sample was exhausted. The wt. of 100 seeds was plotted against the number of samples taken and in many cases a significant relationship was found between 100-seed wt. and sample number indicating a marked tendency for lighter seeds to be removed before the heavier seeds.
