A genetical approach to the analysis of mechanisms of pathogenicity in Botrytis/Vicia faba interactions

, : A genetical approach to the analysis of mechanisms of pathogenicity in Botrytis/Vicia faba interactions. Physiological Plant Pathology 17(3): 309-317

After 6 generations of single spore isolation from broad bean, 15 pure strs. of B. cinerea and B. fabae were selected. They differed in their pathogenicity and therefore both may be heterokaryotic or heteroplasmic for virulence factors. The virulence of each was more closely correlated with the numbers of epidermal cells killed 71/2 - 81/2 h after inoculation than with other factors; phytoalexin sensitivity also clearly distinguished between most isolates of the 2 spp.
