A glabrous Microsporum canis in Greater London

, : A glabrous Microsporum canis in Greater London. Sabouraudia 19(1): 71-77

A variant of M. canis, which produces glabrous colonies on primary culture, was frequently isolated from [human] cases of scalp and body ringworm. The records of a laboratory, which undertakes a diagnostic service covering most of the Greater London Area, show that the prevalence of M. canis among scalp infections increased during the past 10 yr and this species is presently responsible for the majority of cases diagnosed by culture. The glabrous form now represents 1/3 of the scalp isolates of M. canis and it was found most commonly in the west and south of Greater London.
