A graphic technique for determining spacing and priority

, : A graphic technique for determining spacing and priority. Forestry Chronicle 56(4): 161-162

Using data from 99 stands of 11 to 16-yr-old Douglas fir in British Columbia, a graph was constructed in which zones of high and low priority for thinning were superimposed on a plot of competitor tree mean stocking (stems/ha) against crop tree mean stocking. A competitor tree was defined as greater than two-thirds the ht. of a crop tree; max. competition ratio was 1:1 and min. 3:1; upper crop and competitor densities were set at 1200 stems/ha; and min. crop tree stocking at 750 stems/ha.
