A greenhouse method for evaluating seedling tolerance to soil moisture stress

, : A greenhouse method for evaluating seedling tolerance to soil moisture stress. Agronomy Abstracts 73rd annual meeting, American Society of Agronomy: 96-97

A system consisting of a selectively permeable column filled with soil and tanks of varying polyethylene glycol (PEG) 10 000 sol. has been developed to evaluate seedling tolerance to soil moisture stress. The soil columns made of 7.6 cm diam. dialysis tubing (mol. wt. cutoff 8500) with plexiglas bases are placed in tanks containing PEG 10 000 sol. calibrated to provide the desired soil moisture tensions (-0.1, -1 and -15 bar).
