A haemogregarine from the American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis)

, : A haemogregarine from the American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis). Journal of Parasitology 66(2): 324-332

Haemogregarina crocodilinorum Borner, 1901 is redescribed from the blood of Alligator mississippiensis. Intraerythrocytic gametocytes were bean-shaped and measured 10 X 5 (8 to 11 X 4 to 6) mu m; schizonts contained 8 (range 6 to 12) merozoites. Gametogony and sporogony occurred in the gut of the leach, Placobdella multilineata. Intracellular unisporocystic oocysts, 10 X 7 (7 to 12 X 5 to 9) mu m were observed within epithelial cells of the intestinal wall.
