A heavy metal-tolerant strain of a mycorrhizal fungus

, : A heavy metal-tolerant strain of a mycorrhizal fungus. Transactions of the British Mycological Society 77(3): 648-649

A heavy metal tolerant strain of Glomus mosseae was isolated from mycorrhizal clover plants growing on a soil in Shipham, Somerset, which was heavily contaminated with Zn and Cd. In pot experiments infection of clover roots with a Rothamsted strain of G. mosseae was lower than with the Shipham strain whenever Zn or Cd was applied at any level. Clover growth was greater with the Shipham strain than with the Rothamsted strain only at the highest level of Zn (1000 ppm Zn) used.
