The origin, development and research coverage of the Agricultural Experiment Station at Orono, are described in this comprehensive book. The Station was founded at a time when wheat, oats and hay were the principal crops of Maine farms: it was renamed the Life Sciences and Agricultural Experiment Station in 1969, in recognition of the increasing involvement in land use and environmental studies.
