A karyotype study of coloured-carp (Cyprinus carpio). A preliminary report

, : A karyotype study of coloured-carp (Cyprinus carpio). A preliminary report. Proceedings of the Japan Academy, B 57(1): 7-12

18 ornamental carp, consisting of 3 golden (Ogon), 7 red and white (Kohaku) and 8 tricolour (Sanshoku) fish were karyotyped. Irrespective of sex, the basic karyotype was characterised by 6 pairs of metacentrics, 1 single and 17 pairs of submetacentrics, 1 single and 25 pairs of subtelocentrics, and a single long chromosome. Usually there were 100 chromosomes, including 1 long chromosome and 1 microchromosome.
