A laboratory method for evaluation of available nitrogen in soil

, : A laboratory method for evaluation of available nitrogen in soil. Acta Agriculturae Scandinavica 30(2): 149-156

A simple and rapid laboratory method for evaluating the nitrogen status of soils is described. Air dried or fresh soil is heated for 20 hours at 80 deg C in 2 M KCl. The soil extract contains the original inorganic N in the soil plus the NH4-N released from the organic matter. This amount of N is nearly the same as the NO3-N in fresh soil after aerobic incubation for 14 days at 30 deg C.
