A laboratory method for pre-screening soybean varieties for resistance to shatter

, : A laboratory method for pre-screening soybean varieties for resistance to shatter. Research highlights 1979, Research Station, Lethbridge, Alberta: 39-40

A laboratory method, using the Ottawa Texture Meter, was developed to screen mature soyabean pods for shatter resistance. In the most effective method, pods were removed from phytotron-grown, mature soyabeans plants on the day of the test. The pods were held by the pedicel and a compressive force, which was recorded on a strip chart, was applied to the ventral suture until it began to open.
