A link in the rotation: rye as a winter catch crop followed by potatoes under different edaphic conditions. Part II. The effects of different amounts of nitrogen fertilizer and planting dates on yield of some new potato varieties used as animal feed

, : A link in the rotation: rye as a winter catch crop followed by potatoes under different edaphic conditions. Part II. The effects of different amounts of nitrogen fertilizer and planting dates on yield of some new potato varieties used as animal feed. Annales Universitatis Mariae Curie Sklodowska, E1978; 32/33: 45-59

In trials on sandy soil, loess or rendzina in 1973-6, potatoes Notec, Nysa and Prosna grown after a winter catch crop of rye harvested at 3 stages were planted on 3-13 May, 19-23 May or 21-29 May. The rye received 160 kg P2O5, 240 kg K2O, 30 t FYM and 60, 120 or 180 kg N/ha and the potatoes a further 60 kg N/ha. Tuber yield and quality and starch and CP yields were best from the earliest planting.
