A long-term planning model for optimal milk production

, : A long-term planning model for optimal milk production. Transactions of the ASAE 23(6): 1515-1520

A model is presented for the determination of the optimal number of lactations for which cows should be kept in the herd. The optimal stay determines the maximal annual net income for the various productivity levels of the cows. It may lead to the optimal composition of the production groups and thus to maximize the net income of the entire herd, while taking into account the replacement policy. A detailed case study of a 250 cow herd in Israel is given.
