The chemical composition of straw (a) untreated or chopped and NaOH sol. added (b) internally or (c) externally or (d) chopped and NaOH sol. added and then washed is given. DM, CP, neutral detergent fibre and acid detergent fibre contents of (a) were 87.3, 2.92, 78.72 and 54.16%, of (b) 80.32, 2.30, 68.59 and 51.45%, of (c) 81.09, 2.81, 73.26 and 51.03% and of (d) no result, 3.27, 86.08 and 60.66%, resp.
