A machine for tying leaves of cauliflower plants to blanch the heads

, : A machine for tying leaves of cauliflower plants to blanch the heads. Transactions of the ASAE 23(5): 1105-1109, 1116

A single-row machine was developed to tie the leaves over cauliflower heads at a speed of 1.2 km/h. The leaves are raised by lifter belts and carried through the tying mechanism by crowder belts. The twine tier incorporates a modified knotter from a commercial package tier. A plant detector, consisting of a single roller mounted on a spring-loaded arm, rolls in and out around the plants as the machine moves down the field; the movement of the arm actuates the tying mechanism.
