A maize trisome which produces hypertriploid (3n + 2) plants

, : A maize trisome which produces hypertriploid (3n + 2) plants. Maize Genetics Cooperation News Letter (54): 105-107

The progeny of a cross of the trisomic GH42-3, obtained from a hybrid seed population with the inbred W22 consisted of hypertriploids (3n + 2, involving chromosome 3 or 4) as well as diploids and trisomics. Hypertriploids and trisomics were readily identified morphologically and, generally, by the frequency of unstained pollen grains. Grain set was normal in diploids and trisomics but in those hypertriploids which reached maturity most grain developed irregularly.
