A mass selection technique utilizing R-nj aleurone color in early maize

, : A mass selection technique utilizing R-nj aleurone color in early maize. Agronomy Abstracts: 52

Synthetics produced by mass selection for high, low and random expression of aleurone colour, controlled by R-nj, were evaluated for yield and yield components in ten environments in North Dakota. Two cycles of selection for high and low colour expression in ears pollinated with a common source of R-nj pollen were compared with random selection in control populations. Selection for high colour expression increased yield by 6.1% per cycle and decreased ear moisture at harvest by 3.5% per cycle.
