A mathematical interpretation of form factor in Picea abies in the central Cadore

, : A mathematical interpretation of form factor in Picea abies in the central Cadore. Annali dell' Istituto Sperimentale per l' Assestamento Forestale e per l' Alpicoltura1979 1981; 7: 147-186

Various regression models were used in a study of stem form. The best of these proved to be a polynomial model, with three quadratic sub-models, giving stem diameter at any given height as a function of that height, d.b.h. and total height. By this means three stem-form zones were distinguished, each with its characteristic shape: the butt, central and top sections of the stem (0-9, 9-70 and 70-100% of total height respectively).
