A mathematical model and computer programme for the economic assessment of traditional systems of production of milk and weaned calves

, : A mathematical model and computer programme for the economic assessment of traditional systems of production of milk and weaned calves. Tropical Animal Production 7(2): 144-168

From an analysis of the components of dual-purpose herds with cows milked and suckling their calves, a model and a computer program have been developed for calculating income, identifying factors limiting profitability, and showing the effect of changing constraints. The program (written in Basic for a Sinclair ZX81 computer with 16K RAM) is published in full, so that it can be tested by workers in the field and those engaged in livestock extension.
