A mermithid parasitizing Aedes decticus in Labrador

, : A mermithid parasitizing Aedes decticus in Labrador. Mosquito News 41(4): 793-794

A total of 23 mermithids emerged from a collection of 128 mosquito larvae (Aedes spp.) from Labrador, Canada. The mosquitoes were held en masse so the species serving as hosts could not be determined. A further 265 mosquito larvae collected from the same site the next year were reared individually. Of the 7 species of Aedes present, 3 proved to be infected: 33% of A. decticus (a new host record), 2.5% of A. canadensis and 1.4% of A. punctor. The nematodes are as yet unidentified.
