A method for in situ determination of the efficiency of the root system of genotypes

, : A method for in situ determination of the efficiency of the root system of genotypes. Zeitschrift fur Acker und Pflanzenbau 149(5): 391-397

An apparatus for the study of root growth is described in detail. Plants were grown in soil-filled perspex columns made up of four 30 cm sections. Each section contained a ceramic cell, connected to an automated water supply unit, to permit the independent adjustment of soil water potential and nutrient supply in different root zones.
