A method for phytate phosphorus determination in a poultry diet

, : A method for phytate phosphorus determination in a poultry diet. Japanese Poultry Science 17(6): 306-311

The method of Wheeler and Ferrel (NAR 42, 2732) was modified. Phytate phosphorus in the diet was extracted with 3% trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and precipitated with 0.582% FeCl3 as the ferric phytate. The precipitate was washed twice with 3% TCA, twice with N/6 HCl and once with distilled water. Fe in the precipitate was estimated colorimetrically. Phytate P was calculated from this value.
