A method for preparing soft bodied larval Diptera for scanning electron microscopy
Grodowitz, M.J.; Krchma, J.; Broce, A.B., 1982: A method for preparing soft bodied larval Diptera for scanning electron microscopy. Journal of the Kansas Entomological Society 55(4): 751-753
A method is described by which soft-bodied larvae of Diptera may be prepared for scanning-electron microscopy without the usual collapse and distortion of morphological features due to poor fixative penetration; 2 fixative solutions are used, 'super skipper' (R.J. Elzinga, 1981) and Carl's solution (P. Barbosa, 1974), and the specimens are dipped in the 1st before being rinsed twice in the 2nd and then left in it for 12-24 h.
