A method for quantitative determination of zearalenone in corn and corn meal

, : A method for quantitative determination of zearalenone in corn and corn meal. Khigiena i Zdraveopazvane 23(4): 355-360

A modification of Jemmali method was presented for fluorodensimetric determination of mycotoxin zearalenone TLC plates. Direct reading of the TLC plates was employed. A series of solutions of the crystalline toxin were prepared so that the standard curve could be plotted. The concentration of the basic solution was spectrophotometrically determined analogous to that for determination of the concentrations of standard solutions of mycotoxin aflatoxin B1. The optimal conditions of operation of the apparatus and the scanner device were experimentally determined. A dependence was established between the size of zearalenone surface on the plaques and the concentration of the toxin in them. An S-like curve of dependence was obtained between the square root of the surface and the decimal log of the concentration. The method was applicable for zearalenone determination in corn and corn meal.
