A method for rapid evaluation of salt tolerance of rice varieties and breeding lines

, : A method for rapid evaluation of salt tolerance of rice varieties and breeding lines. WARDA Technical Newsletter 2(1): 19-20

14-day old seedlings of 12 rice were grown in culture sol. with 0, 20, 40 or 80 p.p.m. added NaCl. Root growth was reduced with increasing salt conc. in all and was most pronounced with ADNY 202, IR 2B-40-B and BG 11-11. Root growth was stimulated at lower conc. especially in Pokhali, Pa Fant, SR26 and BD2, which were the most tolerant Response to NaCl varied with time.
