A method for rapid seed germination of pecan

, : A method for rapid seed germination of pecan. Pecan Quarterly 15(3): 23-24

Cracked pecans, Riverside, either stratified at 4 deg C for 30 days or not stratified, were soaked in water, GA3 at 1000 p.p.m., BA at 300 p.p.m., or GA + BA at 550 + 150 p.p.m. for 24 h, or not soaked. The percentage germination was greatly enhanced by stratification, and when followed by imbibition in water or GA amounted to 96 and 92%, respectively. Soaking in BA was inhibitory, with only 60 and 14% germination with and without stratification, respectively.
