A fungus cellar is described for accelerating the decay rate of treated wood samples. Concrete troughs 2.25X1.0X0.75 m are filled with damp soil to a depth of 0.85 m over 7.5 cm coarse pumice. Stakes 180X25X12.5 mm are treated in the normal way, leached in water, and pushed in to about 2/3 of their length. Temp. is maintained at 28 deg C and RH at 85% or above.
