A method for the artificial infection of cereal plants with spores and mycelium of Septoria nodorum in field and greenhouse

, : A method for the artificial infection of cereal plants with spores and mycelium of Septoria nodorum in field and greenhouse. Biuletyn Instytutu Hodowli i Aklimatyzacji Roslin (142): 20

For the rapid identification of resistant or tolerant breeding material, the screening of large numbers of individuals or populations may be carried out by applying to the leaf blades of young seedlings a suspension of sporulating mycelium of S. nodorum. After 14-20 days at around 20 deg C, an assessment is made of the symptoms displayed, and resistance is expressed on a five-point scale.
