A method for the particle size fractionation of soil organic matter. Application to coarse-textured tropical soils of very low humus content

, : A method for the particle size fractionation of soil organic matter. Application to coarse-textured tropical soils of very low humus content. Cahiers ORSTOM, Pedologie 17(4): 339-346

Organic (OF), mineral (MF) and organo-mineral (OMF) fractions are separated according to size by: dry sieving at 2000 mu (OF 2000 + MF 2000); wet sieving (water) at 200 mu (OF 200 + MF 200); wet sieving at 50 mu (OF 50 + MF 50); and recovery of the < 50 mu fraction (OMF). OF and OM are separated by simple decantation/floatation procedures. By this method 90% of the organic matter is concentrated in about 12% of the soil weight.
