A method of converting spring barley into winter barley in breeding winter barley in Bulgaria

, : A method of converting spring barley into winter barley in breeding winter barley in Bulgaria. Sb nauch tr Mironov NII selektsii i semenovod pshenitsy (5): 36-38

In order to breed high-yielding winter varieties for malting, spring varieties were converted to winter ones by repeated late sowing in the autumn, thus ensuring the survival of the plants during the winter. Winter forms were obtained which differed from the original spring forms in their greater winter hardiness, better lodging resistance, better malting properties and higher yield. Their respiration rate in autumn and their sugar contents were greater than those of the spring forms.
